Tips for Cleaning BBQs!

Tips for Cleaning BBQs!

At Bayside BBQ’s & Outdoor Centre in Wynnum West, Brisbane, we understand the joy of firing up the barbie and creating delicious memories with friends and family. But let’s face it, nobody enjoys cleaning a greasy BBQ grill after the feast is over. Here are some handy tips to make cleaning your BBQ a breeze, so you can spend less time scrubbing and more time enjoying the outdoors!

Clean as You Go (Kind Of)

While a full clean after every cookout is ideal, here’s a trick to minimise post-BBQ scrubbing. Once the food is cooked and removed from the grill, preheat the BBQ to high for 5-10 minutes. This will burn off any leftover food particles, making them easier to remove later.

Brushing Basics

Invest in a good quality BBQ brush with a long handle to keep you safe from the heat. While the grill is still hot, use the brush to scrape away any remaining debris. A wire brush works well for stubborn grime, but opt for a gentler bristle brush for more delicate surfaces.

Foil It Up

Aluminium foil is your friend when it comes to cleaning BBQs! Line your drip tray with foil before firing up the grill. This catches drippings and grease, making post-BBQ clean-up a breeze. Simply discard the used foil and replace it with a fresh sheet for the next cookout.

Baking Soda to the Rescue

For stubborn baked-on grease, baking soda is a natural and effective cleaning BBQs agent. Make a paste with baking soda and water, and spread it over the cool grill grates. Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, then scrub with the brush and rinse thoroughly.

The Power of Lemons

Lemons are another natural cleaning powerhouse. Cut a lemon in half and use it to scrub the grill grates once they’ve cooled down. The acidity helps remove grease and leaves a refreshing citrus scent.

Cleaning BBQs the Outside

Don’t forget the exterior of your BBQ! Use warm soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge to wipe down the sides and lid. For stainless steel surfaces, a stainless steel cleaner can help maintain a gleaming finish.

Seasonal Deep Clean

At the end of the BBQ season, or a few times a year for frequent users, give your BBQ a more thorough clean. Remove the grates and soak them in a solution of warm soapy water or a degreaser (check the manufacturer’s instructions for compatible cleaning solutions).

  • Bonus Tip: While your BBQ is still warm, apply a light coat of cooking oil to the grates using a paper towel. This helps season the grates and prevent food from sticking during your next grilling session.
  • Remember: Always refer to your BBQ manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for specific recommendations on cleaning BBQs products and techniques.
